Clarksville, Tennessee reporter indicted on drug forgery charges

A Tennessee reporter for The Leaf-Chronicle in Clarksville, Tennessee who was formerly an editor at two other Middle Tennessee newspapers, was arrested yesterday on drug charges.

Cameron Collins was charged and surrendered to Tennessee officials on a sealed Tennessee grand jury indictment alleging prescription forgery, a felony, an Tennessee official with the Montgomery County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department said. He is free on $2,500 bail.

It wasn't clear last night what type of drug Collins is accused of trying to obtain or the circumstances that led to the indictment or the arrest.

The Tennessee Sheriff's Department official said he could provide no other information.

Collins declined to comment last night.

He has worked for several Gannett newspapers in Middle Tennessee, including in Gallatin and Dickson, and some of his articles written for them have appeared in The Tennessean since 1999. Public records list his age as 34.
